STEP 1. In this first step of this portrait you will be sketching out all the lines and shapes. When you draw a portrait you really must make sure you are lightly sketching out the lines to ensure an easy clean up or even when you make a mistake. You don't want your drawing to have heavy pencil marks on your sketch. Start by sketching out the shape of a car head light that is lying on its side for the shape of his face. Sketch in the facial guidelines to ensure even eyes, nose and mouth along with the eyebrows. Draw the guidelines for his ear and his bandanna along with his neck. STEP 2. In this next step you will sketch out the rest of his bandanna which is tied in the front. The shape looks like a baby carrot. Sketch in the details inside of his right ear and proceed on to his eyes. His right eye is the shape of a narrow almond and the left eye is much smaller because his face is attempting to look at you from the side. Draw out the shape of his broad looking nose with a rounded tip. An easy way to draw a set of full lips is to turn your sheet of paper until his face is pointed up and draw a nice long heart. Sketch in his lining for his mustache and then move onto the next step. STEP 3. As you can see this step is where his face starts to appear like he is looking through your soul. First things first. Sketch in the wrinkle and crease detailing on his bandanna as shown and then sketch out his left brow bone structure along with his long girlie full eyelashes. Detail his facial structure until you get the shape of a cheek and chin. Now sketch in the outline of his bold eyebrows and his eye lid. Next draw in his eyeball and nostril hole that is in the shape of a tear drop. Start lightly filling in his mustache and add the lip detailing. STEP 4. In this forth step you will be doing some light shading. To the right take your pencil and detail the hanging piece of bandanna the falls on the side of his face. Now lightly shade in his right lid as shown and then shade or lightly color in his pupil leaving a hint of whit behind for the glossy effect. Do the same coloring technique for the left eyeball as well. Detail the inside of his ear a bit more along with some creasing lines on his neck. STEP 5. You will be taking a lot of time filling in and shading in this step. You are going for a shadowing effect as you can see. Take your pencil or shading tool and start with the forehead then work your way down. But before you do any shading at all you will have to erase all the visible guidelines and shaped that you drew in step one. After you do that continue on with your shading. You want to stay to the far left with your shading you are trying to create a shadow that starts at the forehead and ends on his chest as you can see. Shade in some parts of the inside of his ear as well. STEP 6. After you are done this is what your portrait should look like. Of course if you are using a pencil you will have a somewhat different look. I did all my shading in Photoshop. As you can see he came out looking pretty much like the real thing. All in all Tupac took me two and a half hours to sketch draw and shade. Not including the extra time to make the tutorial that took another 45 minutes.
